What does DSO Ministries do?

Border Bible Institute - Instituto Bíblico Frontera

The BBI-IBF consists of two schools. One on each side of the El Salvador / Honduras border.

On the Honduran side, the Bible Institute of Ocotepeque is directed locally by Jorge Rodriguez. Jorge has lived in Nueva Ocotepeque since the early to mid 90s, preaching for the Iglesia de Cristo de Ocotepeque. Jorge lives with his wife and three daughters in Nueva Ocotepeque.

On the El Salvador side, the Bible Institute of San Ignacio is directed locally by Jesús Hernandez and Marcos Flores. Jesús was one of the first two preachers to begin the work in La Palma and is currently the preacher for the Igelsia de Cristo de San Ignacio. Marcos joined the work in 2010 and lives with his wife in Citala, where he preaches for the Iglesia de Cristo de Citala.

DSO Ministries is involved in several areas of service. We listen for the Spirit to present us Open Doors and walk through in faith that God will be glorified through our efforts or the efforts of those we support.
Short-Term Mission Teams
Shoes For Servants

Evangelism in and around the region from La Palma, Chalatenango, El Salvador to Santa Anita, Ocotepeque,  Honduras is largely done on foot. The preachers and evangelism students spend several hours each day walking to take the gospel to villages and towns in the area, sometimes walking much further than most would consider “walking distance”.

The Ocotepeque Bible Institute (Honduras) and San Ignacio Bible Institute (El Salvador), jointly comprise the Border Bible Institute. The preachers and evangelism students of these schools, are supported by donors who believe the message is important and that equipping local people to deliver that message is also important.

On their many walking journeys, the preachers and evangelism students take with them the tools of the trade with backpacks full of Bibles, lessons, songs, study materials, and more.  Another important tool of this trade is their shoes. They depend on their soles to reach souls. Their shoes must take them over trails, paths, and roads to souls with whom they share the good news of the love and grace of Jesus Christ. The trails, paths, and roads are seldom smooth, as displayed in the included photographs.

The picture (right) of the circle of feet has one shoe a bit different than the others - it is a dress shoe.  All the other feet in that picture are feet of a team from the United States. That one dress shoe belongs to one of the local preachers there. Why point that out?

It is part of the Salvadoreño and Hondureño culture to not only take pride in your appearance, but to look your best when representing Jesus and His church. It is not our intent to change their culture. This can make it difficult to provide black dress shoes that also have a sole that can stand up to the terrain of those trails, paths, and roads.

Shoes for Servants is a way for you to be involved in the ministry of spreading the gospel in Honduras and El Salvador.

Bicycles for Students and Preachers

Our newest ministry, we have begun trying to provide a bicycle to each student or preacher that must travel long distances. This ministry is still in its infancy.

Medical Team (Assistance for the Disabled)

Each year a Doors Slammed Open Ministries team focuses on the medical needs in the area of Honduras we serve. A primary function of this team is to help disabled persons with medical problems. During each year leading up to the trip, medical equipment is collected and crated for shipment to Honduras. Walkers, crutches, orthopedic braces, canes, wheelchairs, and other medical equipment are sent to help the disabled. We are also blessed to have some medical professionals who go as part of the team.
